Chatter FAQ

The Chatter feature is so much more than—well, idle chatter.

Chatter is a built-in collaboration tool that enables you and your team to communicate in context within Anvil. Whether you’re working on Accounts, JDQuotes, Dealer Stock Units, Requests or Purchase Orders, think of Chatter as your Anvil instant messenger service, but better.

From the Chatter tab you can:

  1. Access your Chatter groups, what you follow, messages sent to you, and company highlights.
  2. Create a post where you share an update, post a picture, and more.
  3. Sort or search your Chatter feed.
  4. Receive Salesforce Einstein recommendations for people to follow or groups you might want to join.

Why use Chatter instead of an email or text message?

Chatter records conversations about a record right on the record page, so it’s easy to keep track of all the details and view the history specific to that record. No more searching through your inbox! Chatter enables anyone who is working in an Anvil record to view and respond to posts associated with that record, keeping it all together.

Are Chatter posts secure?

Yes! Your Chatter Group Admin and your Anvil Administrator can restrict viewing and posting permissions only to those users that need to have access. Just like other parts of the Anvil App, the Chatter feed is secure. Plus, because posts are only visible inside the Anvil App, it’s actually more secure than email or text messages.

Can I control when I receive notifications?

Absolutely! Chatter enables you to choose whether to receive email notifications about your personal Chatter activity as well as your Chatter Groups activities. You can choose to receive daily or weekly digests, or limit email notifications only to those mandated by your Anvil Admin. You can apply different settings for each, so that you can stay on top of high-priority activity like hot deals, and set a lower priority for others, like social posts.

How can I tag someone in a post?

Use the @ symbol to tag another user. We call that a mention. You can also @mention a Chatter Group.

How can I quickly find a post?

Every Chatter feed includes a search function. You can search within a record feed, on the Chatter tab, or from the global search bar. You can search for hashtag topics (#), files, or mentions (@). You can also search for an exact phrase using quotations marks. Chatter also includes various ways to sort and filter your feeds as well as the ability to bookmark important posts. Once you’ve played with all the features, it’s really very easy to quickly find whatever you need.
